All on a Mac Intel Mini. All Aluminum. with a backup Time Machine drive attached to it. Quiet and Cool.Fan-less.(put dark tape over the bright blue activity light). I'm very happy with it. I us it as a "Full-Time Running" main FW hard drive.
Saved the day, has worked fine ever since, installation a bit obscure to a newbie. I pulled my 2.5 inch data drive from my crashed Toshiba laptop. The drive C was toast but the drive D had all my data and slid right into the enclosure without a problem.
The Western Digital external drive enclosure has rubber all around the drive for protection and. I dropped mine and instantly kill the drive inside. FIrewire on this works great on a Mac. The hard aluminum outer case is in direct contact with the drive. Shock is mercilessly transmitted to the drive it protects.
However, the firewire cable that comes with the enclosure is too stiff and sometimes difficult to manage on the go. This is a great product and I am very happy with the purchase.
One was already split by the securing screw. Nice touch to include two extra little screws in case you lose the first ones. Bought this to enclose an extra 2.5 inch drive, clone my dying laptop drive, and then swap out. It still holds, but it would be nice if this was sturdier. Also nice to have a short Firewire cable included along with USB.Highly recommended Couldn't be easier. The only structural complaint is are the two small plastic flanges on the back plate which you remove.
